Swindon beat Barbarians by a 1 goal margin

Swindon had their opening match of 2018 against City of Bristol Barbarians and managed a one-goal victory over the Bristolians.

Swindon, who were demoted last season opened the scoring through Andy Strong, but seasoned veteran John Sissons pulled one back to level at one apiece in the opening period.

Matty James was the only scorer in the second period to give the Wiltshire side a one-goal lead going into the halfway stage at 2-1.

Soon after the start of the third period, the Bristol side pulled one back through Michael Chadwick before Strong put Swindon back in front. Sisson’s equalised to make it all level at the end of the period.

With all to play for in the final period, Lawlor found the back of the Barbarians’ net to give Swindon the lead, which Michal Trzeciak extended to 5-3. Jake Newman pulled one back for the visitors, but Strong regained the two-goal cushion for the home side.

With 15 seconds remaining Newman scored a consolation goal for the Barbarians, but it was Swindon that took the two points.

Match officials were Tim La Touche of Bath, and Mike Coles of Weston-super-Mare.
