South Glos take victory in their opening game over Newport II

By | February 27, 2019

City of Newport II were on the road to Winterbourne Academy Pool for their away fixture with South Glos Seniors and almost came away with the points had it not been for a late goal by the home side to win 13-11 which put the game out of reach. But it was a much better performance by the Welsh, coached by Michael Jones.

Duncan Lowe was the playmaker for South Glos, who together with Michael Chadwick and George Forbes were fresh from their weekend in Division 5 of the British Water Polo League, where they had been representing the British Army and help win promotion to DIvision 4 of the BWPL, something City of Newport hope to emulate in the coming weeks.

Also putting in an appearance for South Glos was Spike Massey, former Bristol Central player, making his debut for the home team, however, he did not see the game through to the end after picking up an exclusion misconduct, after a particular heavy tackle he made and he insisted on putting his views across to the referee, Mike Coles, who wrapped him up.

Jakob Newman was top scorer for the home team, with Chadwick and Forbes both getting hat-tricks.

Lewis Waite netted four goals for Newport and Luke Turner got a hat-trick.
