In Swansea’s third game since entering Division 2 of the Bristol & West League, they faced league leaders, also newcomers to the senior league, South Glos, and came away with their first victory 10-11.
Travelling to Winterbourne Academy pool, the home of the South Glos team, the game was a closely thought affair, with Swansea opening the scoring, but the home side soon equalised. At the end of the opening period, the score was 2-all.
By halftime, Swansea had edged ahead by one goal 5-6. However, at the start of the third period, the home side pulled one back and scored to take the lead. They further extended this lead by the end of the quarter to 9-6 and looked to have the game sewn up!
The Welsh visitors had other ideas however, and led a determined fightback netting five goals to South Glos’ one, and gain them victory.
Mike Davies, former Welsh international and a former member of Welsh Wanderers, was player-coach for the Swansea team, and he was assisted by another former Welsh Wanderers and Carmarthen player, Chip Keen.
Mike’s contribution to the game was four goals and three majors, and Chip Keen added another goal. Full match sheet can be seen in the Fixtures and Results page.
