The City of Newport Swimming & Water Polo Club is a large performance club situated at the Newport International Sports Village, South East Wales. With nine squads ranging from Academy 1, where swimmers at Stage 7 ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) are coached to improve their stroke technique, swim speed and stamina thus increasing fitness, through to National Performance Squad where our elite swimmers train over 10 sessions per week and compete in National and International events. The club has multiple swimmers on the Swim Wales National Squad Pathways (including Para-Swimmers) and numerous swimmers competing at British Championships and British Nationals.
The City of Newport Swimming Club is one of the top five competitive swimming clubs in Wales and a fully affiliated member of Swim Wales. The club has three professional coaches and a team of fully qualified volunteer coaches who look after the nine swimming squads and two water polo teams. These coaches provide all the support necessary to ensure every swimmer develops and progresses to be ‘AS GOOD AS THEY CAN BE’.
The City of Newport includes a Waterpolo club with Junior and Senior squads that take part in regular matches throughout the region. Waterpolo is an excellent aquatic pathway for swimmers who seek additional challenges or have reached the end of their swimming competitive journey and the City of Newport are keen to retain such individuals within the club in this way.
Children learn new aquatic skills within the sport of Water Polo, whilst at the same time improving their stroke technique and swimming stamina. It is also a great way of making new friends and participating in the fun sport of Water Polo. All children 8 years of age and older are welcome to attend (both boys and girls), but must be able to swim a minimum of 100 metres and be confident in deep water.
There is also a senior team (16 years+) who train on a weekly basis, and compete in the Bristol & West Water Polo League and also play friendly matches against other senior teams and universities. The club has a number of Welsh internationals in its membership across the squads and are keen to encourage new members and increase its influence across the region.
The City of Newport Masters and Junior Masters provides a great additional session for active sports participants. The Master’s section offers swimmers aged 16 and above the opportunity to enjoy swimming in a structured session, maintain fitness levels and compete against other swimmers of a similar age across Wales.
The Junior Masters is an ideal session for swimmers between the ages of 12-16 years of age who would just like to keep fit within an aquatic environment or seek to supplement another sporting activity they partake in.
